Spaces

"Let there be spaces in your togetherness", wrote Gibran
And as I look at the rising horizon, I remember
That you are looking at the languid stars
So very far from where I am
And that our space is so very wide
Wide in fact, as the greatest ocean,
And as the poet wrote, the moving sea between our souls.
But it's moving still, and perhaps one day, our waves will join
And our smiles mingle together, as do the stars we watch.

Gone

You're gone
But you're here,
Still. Silent in my mind

Your scent lingers
On my pillow, embedded
In my soul, you remain.

Your touch still felt
When I fix my hair
Or earring

Your breath
When the wind whispers
Past my bare neck

Your arms, contours
Of rock, remembered
When I hike the hills

My bedsheets; your hair
Falling over my face
Like a veil

Blinding me
To the fact that
You've gone.

Strawbale

Of straw and mud
Mosaic swirl coves
And preloved glass
I'll build my home

Cushion corners
Crackling logs
In wood fire stove, mingle
With the kettle hum

Knee deep in boggy soil
Potatoes peeping
Cobblestone
Add more soil; wait

Summer's light
Piercing, a shard
Through greenhouse glass
Spotlighting tomatoes

Peace falls each night
Slow, contemplating,
Aligning
As we grow.

Face of snow

Oh face of snow, of china white
With your crescent smile
You orbit me, with light
That sails across the miles

Washing me with your pull
Of white waves fierce
And your face now full
Looks down at my tear

Oh face of snow, of china white
Since our year of birth,
I cannot hide from your sight
But stand here still, as still as Earth

Cape Reinga

Where the waves meet
Clashing, and the wind chants
The Warrior spirits submerge
A tribal dance with the currents
In the tidal race
Running, home.

21g

It is said the weight of a human soul is 21g.
How can a soul be quantified?
Calculate, input data.
Heart rate, pulse.
Document.
Complete.

A soul who lived with one
Rough edge, a tear, a rupture
66 years
Joined to another,
Severed with silent tears.

21g so deep, so full, so strong
Cannot be measured
Resewn now; joined.

The weight can only be measured by those
Left behind.

Haiku - Canvas

A canvas of white, gold, blue
Awash with beauty
Your face; a watercolour
